About us
Gilsons brings together Francisco, João, and José Gil — a trio that bridges generations of Brazilian music. Blending elements of pop rock, samba, reggae, and Bahian rhythms, their sound carries forward the timeless essence of MPB while honoring the creative legacy of their father and grandfather, Gilberto Gil.
Following a series of acclaimed releases — including the hits “Várias Queixas” and “Devagarinho” — the band released its debut album, Pra Gente Acordar, which earned a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Pop Album in the Portuguese Language.
Gilsons have since become one of the leading names of Brazil’s new musical generation, performing at major festivals such as Rock in Rio, Lollapalooza, and Coala Festival.
In 2025, the trio celebrated a milestone international run that cemented Pra Gente Acordar as one of the defining works of contemporary Brazilian music.
After completing a successful ten-city U.S. tour in May — with standout performances in New York, Los Angeles, Miami, and San Francisco — Gilsons embarked on an extensive European tour in September, closing this cycle with a string of triumphant shows.
The tour spanned 11 countries and 18 cities, totaling 20 performances, 14 of which sold out, and reached more than 15,800 fans.
Highlights included memorable nights at the Barbican in London, as well as packed houses in Barcelona, The Hague, Berlin, Brussels, Paris, Amsterdam, and two consecutive sold-out shows at the Button Factory in Dublin.
With their warm harmonies, joyful grooves, and intergenerational spirit, Gilsons continue to carry Brazilian music to new audiences worldwide — reaffirming their place as one of the most exciting voices in today’s global music scene.
